Overview of Cities: Skylines II For PC

Raise a city from the ground up and transform it into the thriving metropolis only you can imagine. Lay the foundations for your city to begin. Create the roads, infrastructure, and systems that make life possible day to day. It's up to you – all of it.

Your city never rests. Like any living, breathing world, it changes over time. Some changes will be slow and gradual, while others will be sudden and unexpected. So while seasons turn and night follows day, be ready to act when life doesn't go to plan.

An ever-expanding community of Builders means more opportunities to build a truly groundbreaking city with mods. They're now more easily available in Cities: Skylines II.

The most realistic and detailed city builder ever, Cities: Skylines II pushes your creativity and problem-solving to another level. With beautifully generated high-resolution graphics, it also inspires you to build the city of your dreams.

Deep Simulation

AI and intricate economics mean your choices ripple through the fabric of the city. Remember that as you strategize, problem-solve, and react to change, challenges, and opportunities.

Epic Scale

Cities: Skylines II lets you create without compromise. Now you can build sky-high and sprawl across the map like never before.

Cities That Come Alive

Your decisions shape each citizen's life path, a chain of events that defines who they are. From love and loss to wealth and well-being, follow their life's ups and downs.

Dynamic World

Pick a map to set the climate of your city. These are the natural forces you'll negotiate to expand your city amid rising pollution, changeable weather, and seasonal challenges.

Photo Mode

The very first options tab you will discover is the Camera, from which you can change all kinds of settings related to the Camera itself.

Examples of these include the Camera Body, Camera Lens, and Aperture Shape, all of which have sub-settings allowing you to tweak things like Camera Collision or Focal Length to get the same shot you want.

From the Lens tab you can adjust the Depth of Field, Motion Blur, Bloom, Vignette, Film Grain, and Panini Projection settings, all of which can be fine-tuned for your needs.

Next, we have Color and as the tab name suggests, you can make all kinds of changes to the color of the screenshot bringing different vibes to it. The options in the colour tab include Color Adjustments, White Balance, and Brightness - and you can, of course, balance their settings.

To brew the perfect storm, we can adjust the Weather. From this tab, you can change the Distance Clouds, Volumetric Clouds, Fog, and Atmosphere.

No need to wait for the weather to be perfect with all these controls at your disposal. Similarly, the Environment tab allows you to change the Time of Day and set the simulation speed, which is used with the Cinematic Camera, a feature that we will go over next.

Light, Camera, Action

To move from photography and into cinematography all you have to do is click on the arrows in the Photo Mode panel.

This opens the essential tools for the Cinematic Mode which consists of general tools at the top, two graphs allowing you to tweak Camera Position Controls and Camera Properties with a timeline at the bottom.

Using these tools you can set up a playback, which can be recorded using any game capture software. Now, let’s briefly go over the different camera options.

Sounds and Music

The sounds follow in the footsteps of the game’s predecessor with all the familiar basic elements: City Service building sounds, atmospheric sounds, and the sound of traffic, however, all these elements have been expanded to give more depth, variety, and control.

Ambient sounds generate the overall mood and feeling in the game while sound effects provide information and support more dynamically.

Ambience

A changing background ambient soundscape is used to create an immersive atmosphere to the city’s overall feel depending on different types of zones, weather, and other occurrences.

World ambience consists of layers that always follow the camera, providing solid background sound for all situations. Changing simulation conditions further affects the ambience, for example, rain isn’t just visible but adds to the ambience sounds.

Vehicles, Citizens & Animals

We have emphasized vehicle and traffic sounds as they are a core part of your city. Vehicle audio changes based on the speed of the vehicle and a style variation for vehicle sirens is chosen automatically based on the theme.

Finally to align with a more personalized touch for the citizens, selecting a citizen from the city plays a small audio cue. These audio cues reflect the citizen’s age, gender, and mood. Similarly, selecting any animal in the city plays a small audio cue related to the type of animal selected.

Radio

Cities: Skylines II has two radio networks which are the top category for radio functionality. The networks function as station collections and the biggest difference is the type of content they have between the songs.

Public Citizen Radio is a public network that leans a bit more toward classical and miscellaneous popular music. The public network plays public service announcements but has no ads. Urban City Radio is a commercial network, themed more around popular music.

The commercial network plays ads but has no public service announcements. Each network has a selection of radio stations under it which all represent a certain music genre or style.

The two stations have a host who is the heart of the station and anchors the show. The game also includes a music-only station for those of you who prefer it.

Age Groups

Citizens age through four different life stages, and each age group is visually distinct from the others. You will find children, teens, adults, and seniors in your cities, and families (i.e. households) can comprise multiple generations, from children to grandparents.

Education

There are 5 levels of Education featured in Cities: Skylines II: Uneducated, Poorly Educated, Educated, Well Educated, and Highly Educated. Each school provides one level of education for citizens. Children are Uneducated until they finish Elementary School which increases their Education level to “Poorly Educated”.

Children will always go to school if possible, so make sure to provide enough capacity for your city’s children. Only teens can go to High School where they can increase their Education level to “Educated”.

Both teens and adults can go to College while adults can attend the Universities available in the city. College graduation rewards citizens with the “Well Educated” status and successfully finishing their University studies grants them the “Highly Educated” level.
