Hollow Knight: Silksong is the sequel to the indie metroidvania Hollow Knight, which redefined the genre when it was released in 2017. In this title, developed by Team Cherry, you control Hornet, someone the Knight encountered in the first installment.

This self-proclaimed protector of the Hallownest ruins is initially imprisoned in a unique subterranean world and must battle her way to the surface. The title builds upon everything that made its predecessor great, including the environmental narrative, which is told through subtle details in the setting, the intricate level design, and a unique, melancholic atmosphere.

Hollow Knight: Silksong introduces an acrobatic playstyle through Hornet, who wields her needle and thread to traverse the environment and combat over 200 enemy types, including more than 40 challenging bosses.

Exploration follows the Metroidvania formula, with areas unlocked through new abilities and rewarding backtracking. A revamped healing mechanic allows Hornet to restore health instantly while moving. However, the combat remains challenging, which can be daunting for some.

In addition, the game’s return to Hallownest not only delivers a familiar experience but also adds to its already breathtaking world with new kingdoms to explore, new rare beasts to hunt down, and ancient mysteries to solve. The crafting system, enabling players to create traps and tools from enemy materials, further deepens gameplay. While the gameplay is new, it doesn’t add anything more to the first game.

Set in the intricate and lush kingdom of Pharloom, the game features new environments, NPCs, and quests that enrich the lore. Journey through mossy grottos, gilded cities, and misted moors as you ascend toward the shining citadel at the world’s peak.

A refined quest-tracking journal aids players in managing side objectives. The narrative is subtly conveyed through environmental storytelling and NPC dialogue, maintaining the enigmatic tone of the original.
