Overview of Katana Zero

Know that Katana Zero is, first of all, a 2D game. It was developed by Askiisoft and published by Devolved Digital for Nintendo, macOS, and Windows. Currently, a DLC is being planned for it in the year 2021.

As for the plot, know that Katana Zero happens in a neo-noir, dystopic metropolis known as New Mecca. The city has been invaded by an unnamed and brutal Asian country. Note that the resultant war is being called the “Cromag War.” It is implied that New Mecca has lost the war.

With this background in mind, know that you will be playing the main character, who is known as Subject Zero. He is the one who completes various kinds of assassination attempts given to him by his psychiatrist. This is also the man who equips Zero with a drug called Chronos. It is this drug that lets him take a breath and see the future.

You will find that Zero will experience nightmares throughout the game. This nightmare will be about a kid who stays in a small, primitive hut. A lab coat-wearing man will burst in and tell the child to take cover and hide before getting shot by a silhouette. Of course, it can be thought that the kid is Zero.

Katana Zero Gameplay

The gameplay here is smooth and doesn’t get stuck or lag. Note that since it is a 2D game so you should temper your expectations for the graphics level. However, even then, it comes with beautiful graphics that have a Blade Runner feel to them. The neo-noir dystopia feels lived in, and so you will certainly love playing in this setting.

The game starts in the middle of one of Zero’s missions. Zero has been sent to extract a scientist who has been kidnapped. Now, the scientist is indeed found, but he gets killed by the monster known as V. Zero fails in this mission and goes to visit his psychiatrist. There, he gets his Chronos injection as well as a file about his next target, known as Josh Rose.

Zero tries to get to Rose, but the man commits suicide. Over the game, he gets tasked with more targets that he has to kill. The game’s plot unfolds as he experiences Chronos withdrawals and tries to solve various other mysteries.

Key Features of Katana Zero

Zero health bar: Know that you won’t get a health bar over here. This means that if you get hit, then you will die. After all, this is an instant death, hack-and-slash game.

Traps: You will be able to lay traps to kill your enemies. These traps are all environmental and will require your ingenuity. You will have to figure out which trap works best for whom.

Deflect bullets: You will be able to deflect bullets using your slash. Practice this skill in the game thoroughly since it will save your life. After all, remember that there is no health bar. One hit and you die.

Meter: Know that you will be able to slow the time using your meter. However, this meter won’t always be full. After all, that will just make the game too easy for you. Instead, the meter will slowly fill up over time. This means that you should use it carefully. Note that if you use it up in one scene, then you won’t have to slow time down in further important missions.

Roll: You will be able to dodge the attacks by using the roll option. In here, you will have to press a button to roll down. As such, it’s another lifesaving option. After all, your sword won’t save you all the time.
