The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant suffered the world's worst nuclear accident in 1986. The Zone as we know it was created after a second explosion hit the reactor in 2006, producing a hazardous region filled with mutant animals, lethal radiation, and a weird, anomalous energy. The military had roped off the Zone and threatened to kill anyone who tried to enter.

The year is 2012. The Zone is still a hazardous area that poses a threat to humanity as a whole. Due to tales of odd 'artifacts' infused with anomalous energy, mercenaries, bounty hunters, and explorers delved deeper and deeper into the heart of the Zone.
